The Other Women Of Wonder Woman

It's hard to walk away from Wonder Woman without being inspired by Diana Prince's incredible strength, confidence, compassion, and intellect — not to mention her ability to charge across battlefields in high heels.
She's just one of many incredible women featured in the film, though. Our hero hails from Themyscira, an idyllic island occupied solely by powerful and mighty female Amazon warriors. When the action moves to London, we meet Etta Candy, the delightful and headstrong assistant to Chris Pine's dashing spy Steve Trevor. And then there's Dr. Maru, the mysterious villain who's making World War I even more deadly.
Intrigued? Learn more about the women who are helping to make Wonder Woman much more than your average superhero film.

Etta Candy

Fans of British comedy may recognize Lucy Davis from the original The Office, in which she plays Wernham Hogg receptionist Dawn. She's still in admin mode as Etta Candy, secretary to Chris Pine's Steve Trevor. She's a bubbly, fashion-conscious suffragette who supplies much of the film's comic relief — and if she's not in the sequel, we will engage in fisticuffs.

Queen Hippolyta

Connie Nielsen plays the stunning and strong queen of the Amazons. She also happens to be Diana's mother, and is so overprotective that she's raised her daughter to believe she was born after Hippolyta sculpted her from clay. Riiiight.

General Antiope

Thought House of Cards' Claire Underwood was tough? She's nothing compared to this Amazon warrior. Robin Wright plays Diana's aunt and Hippolyta's sister, regarded as the most fearless fighter on Themyscira. Naturally, she's the one who oversees her niece's intensive training.

Dr. Maru

Also known as Dr. Poison, Spanish actress Elena Anaya's character is a chemical genius on the wrong side of the war. The doctor, who wears a mask to hide her facial damage, is working with Danny Huston's villainous General Ludendorff to create total toxic annihilation.

The Amazons

The women of Themyscira are a force to be reckoned with: brave, strong, intelligent, and well-versed in the arts of archery, swordfighting, and rappelling. Lisa Loven Kongsli's Menalippe leads the group as Antiope's lieutenant (and possible love interest?), while supermodel Doutzen Kroes (Venelia), Samantha Jo (Euboea), Ann Wolfe (Artemis), Mayling Ng (Orana), Florence Karumba (Acantha), and Madeleine Vall Beijner (Egeria) fill out the group.
