24 Times 50 Cent Crossed The Line

Illustrated by Mallory Heyer.
50 Cent is a pretty complex guy.

He was born Curtis James Jackson III on July 6, 1975 in New York City and his life has been anything but boring.

By the time he was 12, he was involved in the drug scene of the 80s, he told Rolling Stone, and was arrested for his involvement. In 2000, he was struck by nine bullets in a shooting. And then, in 2002, the 27-year-old rapper was discovered by Marshall Mathers, better known as Eminem.

With Eminem's help, 50 Cent rose to the top of the hip-hop industry, making a name for himself as both a rapper and a businessman. He released his first studio album, Get Rich Or Die Tryin' in 2003 giving us singles such as the much-karaoked "In da Club" as well as "21 Questions" and "P.I.M.P." The break-out album was also nominated for a Grammy.

Since that first successful album, 50 Cent has been endorsed and invested in multiple franchises and brands, appeared in over two dozens films, and engaged in a rap feud or two.

Admittedly, 50 has been through some ups-and-downs. In the midst of all that, 50 has always tried to keep it 100, even if that occasionally meant taking it a bit too far. He's good at finding the line, and crossing it with no qualms.

So, in honor of his 41st year around the sun, here are 24 times 50 Cent was just a little too much. But keep doing you, Fiddy. And, in the words of, well... you "go, shawty, It's your birthday, We gon' party like it's yo birthday."

When he reinvented the birthday song
Have you ever actually looked up the lyrics to Fiddy's infamous take on the classic "Happy Birthday To You"? They're intense.

When he brushed his teeth in only a (very low) towel
In the words of 50 Cent himself, "I'm a Big Deal, I brush my teeth and make the paper? Get on my level. Lol."

Not part of a balanced breakfast, Fiddy.

When he tried to combine Shakespeare & rap
"No Romeo No Juliet" is the rapper's newest single, but it doesn't quite work. Shakespeare is cringing in his grave over these lines — "She no Juliet for no Romeo with no dough/ She report to pimpin', now back to trickin'."

When he had beef with Meek Mill
His beef with Meek Mill seems never-ending. A few months ago, 50 dedicated a stream of memes on social media to insulting Meek. One post was even a fake obituary for the rapper, saying he passed away after "a long battle taking L's from 50 Cent" and that he "will not be greatly missed."

When he squashed the beef with Floyd Mayweather
The two had bad blood after 50 Cent challenged the boxer to read one full page of a Harry Potter book as part of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. It later came out that Mayweather was illiterate, so 50's request was a low blow.

But, recently the two reconciled as seen on 50's Instagram.

When he freaked out after being kicked off stage
The rapper was asked to leave the stage during the Birthday Bash concert in Atlanta and was not too pleased about that.

The two rappers look like embarrassing dads at a school dance.

When he was too adorable with his son & it was basically illegal
This is too cute, 50. You crossed the line. Like, is it possible to die of cuteness?

When he was arrested for using profanity
He was told not to curse during his performance in St. Kitts in the Caribbean. He did anyways. A couple of times. He later had to pay the $1,100 fine for using explicit language in public.

When he posted revenge porn
Nope, this is never okay. He was ordered to pay $2 million in damages, regardless of his claim that he was broke. The woman in the video, Lastonia Leviston, who has a child with rapper Rick Ross, successfully sued Fiddy.

When he got confused about what grapefruit was
And Aziz Ansari was lucky enough to be sitting close enough to witness the interaction. According to the comedian, Fiddy asked the waiter why his grapefruit soda wasn't purple.

When he complained about doing chores at his grandma's house
This seems to be a joke, since 50 often talks highly of his grandparents, the only family he has since his mother passed away and he never knew his father. Or at least, he better be kidding.

When he took Taco Bell to court
The rapper claimed that the chain restaurant used his name "50 Cent" to help sell their food items. The lawsuit was settled, and he no doubt got more than 50 cents in compensation.

When his rap love story was actually super sweet
Apparently his label thought the song was too soft — it didn't even need an explicit label. But a man's gotta show his sweet side, too. He told Newsweek, "Dre was, like, 'How you goin' to be gangsta this and that and then put this sappy love song on?' " 50 recalls. "But I told him, 'I'm two people. I've always had to be two people since I was a kid, to get by.' To me that's not diversity, it's necessity.''

When he secretly dated Chelsea Handler
Okay this wasn't too far in terms of Fiddy outbursts. It was kind of amazing. Just look at their awkward chemistry. Handler of the relationship said she was "sampling" and that she was "satiated." Hmm.

When he started a long-standing beef with Ja Rule
Fiddy first threw shade at Ja Rule in his verse on Eminem's single. The dig became a part of 50 Cent's MO, and the beginning of a never-ending rap feud.

When he released this Pimpin' Curly video
This may be the oddest thing you see all day. What does it mean? Dunno.

When he reignited his feud with Diddy
Fiddy believes that Diddy continues to milk his ties with the late rapper, Notorious B.I.G. And he hasn't been shy about his disgust toward Diddy. Just the other week, the rapper uploaded a picture of the two with the caption "BIG DEAD, after dancing with the Devil."

When he said some homophobic stuff
This is quite problematic. In a 2004 interview with Playboy, an overly candid 50 said, "I don’t like gay people around me, because I’m not comfortable with what their thoughts are. I’m not prejudiced. I just don’t go with gay people and kick it — we don’t have that much in common. I’d rather hang out with a straight dude. But women who like women, that’s cool."

He has since rephrased his thoughts, telling The Wrap in 2013 that he "never had homophobia."

The music video for "Candy Shop"
I literally got in trouble for watching this when it came on MTV when I was in middle school. Anyone else?

Endorsing a vodka line named "Effen"
So, upon research it seems "effen" means "smooth" in Dutch. But I'm pretty sure 50 was fully aware of this double entendre. He also refused to disclose how much he was making from his endorsement deal.

All-in-all, he's a guy who likes to push it to the limit
Go big, or go home as they say.
