Why Judd Apatow Says Amy Schumer Is A Role Model For His Daughter

When we visited the set of Amy Schumer's Trainwreck in 2014, we noticed something, or rather someone interesting: Maude Apatow. The eldest daughter of director Judd Apatow, Maude's no stranger to film sets. (She's the one who Googled murder in Knocked Up.) Now, she's 16 — and Schumer just wants to hang out with her. "She’s the coolest. She’s cooler than me," Schumer told Refinery29 when we asked what their relationship was like. "You know when you’re around someone and you can just feel it? I’m always trying to impress her and be laid back." Schumer joked that she's tried being an older sister to Maude, but it's not really working out. "She's one of those people who’s real sweet, but you feel like she can see through you. I’m trying to hang with her, if you can put a word in." We can absolutely see the two of them hanging out together — especially since Maude's developed her own singular brand of humor on Twitter. "I don’t know if she’s seen my show, but that girl is an adult," Schumer continued. "I want her to be on the show, but I don’t know if the offer reached her. Judd says it didn’t." Since we are nothing if not helpful, we reached out to Judd to get some clarification on what's going on here. Of course, he had nothing but amazing things to say about Schumer and Maude's connection. "Maude has been lucky enough to get to know Amy and Lena Dunham, and I think it has inspired her in the best possible way," the director told Refinery29 via email. "She has gotten to see these amazing, creative, hard working women at work and outside of work, and I hope it makes her see that anything is possible if you are that dedicated and kind." And like any parent, Apatow loves that his daughter is getting opportunities he only dreamed of as a kid. As he put it, "The closest I got to a set was seeing Dom DeLuise at Westbury Music Fair."
