The Ab Fab Secret To Success? Turning Off Your Phone

Queen of Ab Fab, Joanna Lumley has just taken on a brand-spankin' new role. With fewer costume changes but just as much responsibility, she’s stepped up as a mentor to kids. Well, sort of. Giving a talk at a Westonbirt private girls school, she shared her words of wisdom and her secrets for success. Speaking to 11- to 18-year-olds, her main message was for them to stop being "a servant" to their mobiles phones, slating the gadgets as a “waste of life.” Frequently expressing her distaste for our modern reliance on mobiles, she advised, “If all you are doing is reacting to calls, then you never develop. You need to have time to be free and for your heads to be free to think.”
The actress is certainly qualified to advise, having had a career that has spanned over four decades, after finishing her days of boarding school education (though she admits she was by no means a “model pupil”). She urged the girls not to solely obsess about grades, but instead, to take advantage of their surroundings to become “streetwise and savvy.” Our favorite part though? Her advice that the girls “be beautiful, be brave, be kind, be clever, be happy.” Seems she’s got a good head on those padded ‘80s shoulders. (Daily Mail)
