Upcoming CNBC Documentary Explores Counterfeit Goods

Walking down the streets of New York, it's almost impossible to avoid the clusters of people pushing grimy cardboard boxes around on dollies, flashing their fake Speedy bags to anyone who looks interested. But, these kinds of counterfeit goods can be found all over the country in non-descript shops and flea markets. Emmy award-winning journalist Carl Quintanilla takes viewers into the depths of counterfeiting and its social and economic impact on the U.S. in CNBC's "Crime Inc.: Counterfeit Goods." The documentary takes a look at all kinds of counterfeit products from handbags to prescription drugs and even weapons parts supplied to the military in Iraq. Discussed at length in the show is the tie between counterfeit goods and terrorist organizations. Counterfeit goods also have the potential to take jobs away from companies who employ American workers, and exploit the workers who make the bags for as little as $3. So ask yourself, is a knock-off shoe worth that weight on your conscience?
CNBC's "Crime Inc.: Counterfeit Goods" airs next Wednesday, July 14 at 9 p.m.
