Thank You for Being a Trend: Vintage YSL, Lam, Lim, and Luella Inspire Major Golden Girls Moment

golden-girls-7
Last week, I had the good fortune of scoring a gorgeous vintage brocade YSL blazer on eBay. It was mis-marked by the seller. My lucky day. After taking turns trying it on and marveling at its glorious shimmery purpleness, our fashion director Piera and I mutually declared it "very Golden Girls." This spawned another conversation about who liked who best (she: Sofia; me: Blanche). But more importantly, it inspired us to track down other Golden Girls'esque looks on the runways. Yes, those prime-time GG trademarks—sequins, jumpsuits, monochromatic suits, batwings, metallics, baggy trousers—are all very de riguer thanks to Luella Bartley, Phillip Lim, and other designers who were more likely channeling '80s glamour than '80s octogenarians. Anyway, we still like the comparison. Now go listen to the theme song on You Tube!
