Target Heart Rate: You're Doing It Wrong

Whether you use the treadmill or the elliptical machine at the gym, chances are you’ve got one eye on the TV and the other on the panel of numbers monitoring your workout. And, one of those digits is your target heart rate — or, the maximum number of times per minute your heart should be beating during your workout.
It’s a figure that’s typically calculated by subtracting your age from 220; most cardio machines figure it out that way — that's why it asks you to input your age before you start moving.
