This Sriracha Vodka Is No Replacement For Hot Sauce

There are a ton of sriracha-themed products on the market. Candy canes, lip balm, lollipops, boxer-briefs, you name it; but none are official products by the world's most famous sriracha manufacturer, Huy Fong Foods. Seeing as Huy Fong has been a hot topic in the spicy sauce world recently — a Los Angeles judge recently ordered the closure of its California plant — it comes as no surprise that other companies might see this as the opportune time to release their very own sriracha products.

The latest is Phillips Distilling Company's sriracha-flavored vodka. It's not made with Huy Fong's product — the famed rooster sauce and its name refer to a regional Vietnamese condiment, for which there are many recipes — but it reportedly contains its best-known flavors: garlic, vinegar, and chilies.
Phillips, which also makes a schnapps called Ice Hole, says that the new UV Vodka flavor is "the Bloody Mary’s new best friend." This is hardly the world's first spicy vodka. There are a number of black pepper versions on the market, while Master of Malt sells a chili-infused spirit that reportedly goes up to 250,000 Scoville units. (Translation: You do not want to drink this.)
Curiously, the new vodka is also only 30% ABV, which would make for a weaker-than-usual Bloody. Perhaps it has less alcohol so that you can enjoy more of it before you pass out in your eggs Benedict? In any case, it's not a replacement for sriracha sauce, and you don't want to splash it on your eggs themselves. (TIME)
