Currently, in New York, a heap of snow has just fallen on the ground, and locals are shivering due to the post-Sandy Nor'easter. Yet, this bright and sunny Pixie Lott look at the WGSN Global Fashion Awards is just firing on all cylinders — even if a summery floral is the centerpiece of the outfit.
The idea of a giant flowery crown on a red carpet might sound unintuitive, but Ms. Lott doesn't just make it work — she stops the show. The first reason is that Lott's makeup opts for fresh-faced and flushed, instead of vampy or over the top. She has pink cheeks and lined eyes to age up the look but doesn't go overboard — the headpiece does that on its own. Secondly, the off-the-shoulder Dolce & Gabbana black dress is both bohemian and formal, a strange but oddly compelling mix. The slouchy sleeves keep her look dreamy and whimsical, but the fitted form of the dress makes the entire ensemble red carpet-ready.
