How To Do A Loose Updo, Without All Of Your Hair Falling Out Of It

Perhaps no hairstyle has been in heavier rotation for us this summer than the braid. Whether it was a fishtail to spice up a boring ponytail or a crown braid to get our bangs off our faces, by now, we’ve become pros at executing all types of plaits. Except, that is, for one: the undone, braided updo. It's hard enough braiding the back of your head as it is, but trying to tackle a loose, messy iteration of a plait back there is nearly impossible. It either looks like a complete disaster or the hair just keeps falling out.
To give us a hand with the style, we called on hair pro Adam Maclay to create an updo that's chic, without being too structured. By combining different braids, Adam transforms account manager Kellie Matzen’s long, red locks into a textured, romantic bun that looks amazing from the front and back. Check it out to learn his weaving tricks.
