5 Layered Hairstyles That Feel Fresh, Fun, & Mane-Changing

There's a reason layered locks are some of the most sought-after 'dos. As versatile and easy to style as they are, everyone from top models (hello, Alessandra) to Hollywood starlets are sporting the terraced tresses of late. And it's no wonder. We chatted with stylist DJ Quintero of the Serge Normant at John Frieda salon in NYC and figured out why layers are popping up everywhere.
According to Quintero, "Layers are the removal of weight, which helps add movement and texture to the hair. People with damaged hair benefit greatly from this cut because layering can be used to remove dry or split ends without shortening the length." We're listening.
And not just that. Layered cuts are easier to style because they don't require a lot of products to look good. Quintero likes the style on straight, medium-to-long hair the best, but he also encourages curly-haired ladies to consider this look. "All you need is a hairdryer, a round brush, and great volumizer that gives lift at the root and allows hair to move and not become greasy or weighed down." Quintero suggests a volumizing shampoo and conditioner and the Serge Normant Meta Lush Volumizer to achieve the perfect look.
