Awful: Shirts Capitalize On Kristen Stewart’s Cheating In An Uncool Way

Let's just get this out of the way: Breaking the trust of your loved ones is never okay, and we can all agree that endangering families for a "tryst," especially one that is done so publicly, verges on morally reprehensible. But since none of us know Kristen Stewart or Rupert Sanders, all we can do is speculate on the hurt feelings and broken trust that real people are experiencing in faraway Hollywood-land.

What we cannot do, however, is feel okay with these T-shirts that call out Kristen Stewart as a "trampire" and suggest that we ought to "take a dump on her." Without making qualifying comments about the morality and irresponsibility of Stewart's actions, these shirts feel like the reverse scarlet letter — we are wearing the red "A" for her, literally pointing out to Kristen what an adulterer she is.

This is not a defense of cheating or breaking marital vows — two things we can pretty much safely say are horrible things to do. But making a shirt condemning a 22-year-old girl (who was one-half of a cheating couple) as a "trampire" and worthless inspires a knee-jerk reaction, at least in this writer. Though the term was employed in a humorous way by Will Ferrell when he was poking fun over our collective horror at the dissolution of Robsten, commodifying the term and pointing our collective fingers is so Hawthorne, right? To us, a shirt that condemns a woman none of us knows for her sexual proclivity and mistakes (no matter how much we personally disagree with it or how little we know of the situation) feels very anti-feminist.
