3 Ways To Survive The Filene’s Going-Out-Of-Business Sale

We were pretty distraught this morning when we read the news that Filene's Basement will soon liquidate and shut its doors after more than 100 years in business. A day of digging at Filene's is not unlike a good dose of cardio. We need it. One thing cheers us up though, and that's the inevitable monster sale that comes along with a major chain closing. Read below and prepare to bid Filene's bon voyage in a major way Here's what you need to know to get the most out of your closeout sale excursion. (WWD)
1. Protective Gear
If history tells us anything, it's that a helmet, some elbow pads, and a solid pair of steel-toe boots are not a totally terrible idea when attempting any Filene's sale, much less the last one ever. At the very least, wear a cross-body bag. No fashion hazards, people!
2. Backup
Do not — we repeat — do not go at this alone. Call in your Varsity friend squad and form a deal-diving posse. If you don't like that Armani blazer, one of your friends will. Have her back, literally and figuratively. Go team.
3. Search & Destroy
Leave no bin unchecked, and no rack unscoured. Toss a protein bar in your bag for when fashion fatigue kicks in and don't quit until you've seen it all. This is the last time ever you'll score a Filene's-sized deal, so make it count!
