Alexander Wang Ditches The Black For Spring

alexander-wang-spring-2011-runway
Set in his usual Fashion Week turf of Pier 94, Alexander Wang showed his spring '11 collection that was—in most ways—anything but usual. Instead of inky, cocktail-chic separates that downtown Wangettes everywhere appreciate come witching hour, Alex decided to ditch the black palette and try for something with a little lightness. He found this brevity through oversized silks, semi-transparent knits, and a theme that melded construction workers (workman outerwear, paint splatters, duct tape accents) with psych ward patients (hospital gowns, cuckoo-crazy hair, straight-jacket details). Of course, the shoes and motorcycle jackets were still there, to appease his legions of fans, but we're not quite sure if loyal Wangettes will flock to this new direction Alex is headed in.
