Just think: If we only took style cues from the most visible sources of fashion-industry inspiration — the young, the mainstream — we'd be left with, well, a whole lot of the same thing. And, who wants personal style that's not actually personal at all? Luckily, over the past several years, we've found kindred sartorial spirits in the women of Advanced Style. Specifically, Ilona Royce Smithkin, a firecracker who makes her own eyelashes from her hair, performs in a cabaret, stars in Karen Walker campaigns — and, oh yeah, she's 94.
The above clip takes a look inside Advanced Style, the movie, which is finally making its stateside premiere this Friday. Besides showcasing truly original outfits, the Ari Seth Cohen and Lina Plioplyte flick is a love letter to amazing style at any age. More importantly, it's a look at the incredible women who have changed the way we think about both aging and fashion.
