While it should go without saying that June isn’t the only time of year to celebrate and support queer culture, Pride month does make for a fun excuse to watch films focused on and led by queer folks. With more LGBTQ+ stories playing out on the silver screen than ever before, there are movies upon movies to binge, from romance and comedy to drama and documentary. To help get your queer cinema marathon started, we put together a list of the 25 best movies to stream in honor of Pride month.
This list includes LGBTQ+ directors making queer films like Donna Deitch's romance Desert Hearts or the cult-classic But I'm a Cheerleader. There are also critically acclaimed films like Everything Everywhere All at Once, Moonlight and Call Me By Your Name, as well as soon-to-be classics like Fire Island and Booksmart. Plus, there are dramas like God’s Own County and Portrait of a Lady on Fire that will have you intensely glued to the screen all night. And for those in the mood for a queer history lesson, there are documentaries, too, such as one that tells the story of the L.A. bookstore that became a queer mecca.
Hopefully in perusing this list, you'll reignite your love for a movie you’ve seen a hundred times or find a hidden gem or two you missed the first time around. Just as showing your pride for the LGBTQ+ community isn't a one month a year thing, these movies should become part of your movie lineup long after June ends. Lucky for you, all 25 of these queer movies are currently available for streaming. So get watching.
