Your May Horoscope, Revealed

Illustrated by Abbie Winters.
Ah, May, the month that most astrologers have been eyeing quite warily because of the major planetary changes and configurations that are about to unfold, namely Uranus entering Taurus for the first time since 1934 right after the new moon in Taurus on May 15. Uranus is known as the planet of sudden change, upheaval, and revolution, but one of his favorite activities is questioning authority and social programming. Uranus looks at what currently exists around him and asks, "Why should it remain this way? Maybe there’s a different way of doing it." This is probably where Aquarians get their “unusual” and eccentric reputation. But there's nothing wrong with wanting to take what is and turn it on it’s head. When we’re willing to view things from an unexplored vantage point, we just might discover a new mode of being.
That said, Taurus isn’t Uranus’ favorite sign to visit, because Taurus isn’t exactly known for its desire to change unnecessarily. It's a fixed earth sign, so it likes stability and knowing what to expect next, especially in regards to its tangible resources (read: money and food). The Taurean motto might as well be, “If it ain’t broke, don't fix it — and if it is, maybe it’s best that way."
So, here's a taste of what we might see under this sign-planet meetup: shifts in the stock market and monetary values, physical changes to the Earth, revolutionary plans for food cultivation and environmental conservation, and much more. Mercury will leave Aries at long last and enter Taurus on May 13 (for 16 whole days). While in Taurus, Mercury will be slow to talk but deeply thoughtful as he tries to make sense of the information he’s receiving. Things will be moving fast, so he’ll help us process first before leaping to conclusions.
To add a bit more oomph to the month, Mars will enter Aquarius on May 16, inviting us all to act on our unusual (and potentially genius) ideas. The catch is that Mars will be in a cranky square with Uranus as soon as he changes signs. Whenever these two planets meet up, there’s a high probability of sudden violence and revolutions, but with that risk also comes more decisiveness and courage. May is the month to take risks as if this is a dress rehearsal, since Uranus will dip back into Aries on November 6 to wrap up any loose ends we've left behind. On May 19, Venus enters nurturing Cancer, offsetting all that chaotic energy by putting an emphasis on self-care. On May 21, we leave the steady domain of Taurus as the Sun enters Gemini. If the month felt fast and crazy before, Gemini will really pick up the pace and call on us to investigate what’s going on in the world around us. We finish out the month with a vibrant full moon in Sagittarius, followed by Mercury picking up speed and curiosity in Gemini.
It’s a breathless month, so stretch, hydrate, and do your best to keep up with all the changes!
