However, at the Creatures of the Wind show on Thursday, our fingers started itching. The large-knit fishnet tights were paired with everything from long pants to short skirts, and gave the already stellar Katharine-Hepburn-’40s-meets-Melanie-Griffith-’80s silhouettes an extra squeeze of cool.

The key to these fishnets looking modern instead of dated is to go for a loose, large web instead of something with a smaller knit. Then, according to Creatures of the Wind, you can literally pair them with anything — even open-toe sandals (avoid fishnets that have a visible footbed or toe-catch to them, for maximum impact).
