Despite Kim Kardashian West having more than 40 million followers on Instagram, apparently her fans aren’t as dedicated to her selfies as she may have thought.
Selfish, published by Rizzoli in May, has only sold 32,000 copies since its release, according to Nielsen Bookscan data released to Radar. That amounts to a mere 0.8% of the star's total number of Instagram followers, a pretty tiny figure when you consider she has one of the most-followed accounts on the image-sharing platform.
The book contains 445 pages filled exclusively with selfies. It seems likely that many of her fans just aren't ready to dole out real cash to see her selfies bound in hardcover form. Her followers are already accustomed to getting their fix of Kim's self-reflective photos for free, so the purchase is hard to justify.
The sluggish sales may also be due to generational differences among consumers. Who wants to carry around a clunky book when you can have Kim's selfies right in your pocket?
Or, perhaps people would just rather keep the selfies on their screens rather than on their coffee tables.
