Martha Stewart Throws Parties For 100+ People In This Historic Estate

If there's one thing that's endlessly fascinating to the American public (right up there with how Kim Kardashian is styling her ponytail or where Beyoncé and Jay-Z are having dinner), it's how Martha Stewart is living. And, while many celebs have adopted a #nofilter policy, Ms. Stewart tends to be a bit more guarded — until today.

The nation's preeminent domestic goddess invited Architectural Digest into Skylands, her 12-bedroom estate off the coast of Maine. Sitting on 63 well-groomed acres, the historic property was built as a summer home for automotive titan Edsel Ford — yes, that Ford — and remained in his family until 1980. “I look at myself as the caretaker of an American treasure,” Stewart told the magazine.

Ever the consummate gardener and hostess, Stewart spends late summer in the Maine home, where she can throw events for 100 guests or more — comfortably removed from the hustle and bustle of those déclassé Hamptons crowds. Click over to Architectural Digest for the full story and to see more photos.

Stewart bought the home in 1997, along with almost all of its contents. “I didn’t have to buy a plate,” she told the magazine.
