Now And Then Could Be Getting A Remake

In 1995, Gaby Hoffmann, Christina Ricci, Thora Birch, and the late Ashleigh Aston Moore starred as four childhood friends coming of age in 1970. The film was called Now and Then, and it was the ultimate girl-positive film that young women and their moms could watch together. A project to develop the film into an ABC Family series floundered, but, according to Vulture, Hollywood is still holding out hope for a Now and Then reboot. "I'm very friendly with the woman who wrote it, Marlene King, so yes, that [a remake] has come up," the film's director, Lesli Linka Glatter told Vulture. "It seems to be [with] this film especially, young women have come of age on it and I love that; that was one of the reasons we made it, there hadn't been anything done about young girls growing up." As much as we loved the original film, the possibility of a remake doesn't fill us with joy. And, there's no need for a sequel either, considering the film showed the girls in their adulthood, as portrayed by Demi Moore, Rosie O'Donnell, Melanie Griffith, and Rita Wilson. We know how they turn out, and remakes so rarely hold up to the original. Why mess with a good thing? How's this for a compromise? Have the film rereleased in theaters (peg it to its 20th anniversary!) and encourage the girls who fell in love with the film in the '90s to bring their daughters and nieces. Or, leave the kids at home, round up your own childhood pals, and resurrect your old slumber party movie nights — this time with wine.
