Move over, Iggy. The rap game's other Azealia just made a major statement.
After years of delays and bitter fights with her former label, Azealia Banks has finally released her long-awaited debut, Broke With Expensive Taste, which is now available for purchase on iTunes.
Perhaps realizing that her fan base had grown weary of all the start-and-stops (the album was first slated for a September 2012 release), Banks decided to release the 16-song set to little fanfare.
However, the 23-year-old Harlem native didn't pull a total Beyoncé. There were online rumblings of a possible release all week, after a tracklist emerged on Spotify and Banks' social media accounts featured art from the album.
It's hard to believe that it's been a whole three years since Banks' first single, the universally acclaimed banger "212" (and its amazing video) first lit the blogosphere on fire. Banks was instantly hailed as the future of female rappers and became the fashion world's undisputed muse. But, with no album in sight, Banks became more known for her Twitter rants and petty feuds rather than her music, causing her to take a backseat to the likes of Nicki Minaj and Iggy Azalea.
Now, Banks is back with a vengeance, ready to reclaim the throne she held ever so briefly. Whether she can or not remains to be seen, but we're as excited as anybody to watch her try.
