Are Fat-Melting Procedures Worth The Hype?

Illustrated by Sydney Haas.
We're all for body positivity here at R29, and we think every woman looks beautiful at every size. But, that doesn't mean we live in a vacuum; we know there are plenty of people out there who go to great lengths to change their appearance. And, it's only natural to be curious. So, in the spirit of journalism, Cheryl Wischhover of The Cut put two (too good to be true?) "fat-melting technologies" to the test.
Wischhover tried a couple of the more well-known — and buzzed-about — treatments on the market: the LiLa Strawberry Laser (which apparently pokes holes in your superficial layer of fat cells and causes them to drain into your lymphatic system) and the Ultrashape (which claims to kill fat cells by way of ultrasound waves). Did she see results? Sort of. After each treatment, there were benefits — and pitfalls. At the end of the day, these procedures aren't miracle workers. Can they help you tone? Probably. But, you're not going to melt from a size 12 to a size two. And, that's A-okay.
Click through to read Cheryl's detailed descriptions of her two treatments — and find out just how much it costs to burn fat while lying down. (The Cut)
