Note to all non-married celebrities in serious relationships: If you don't want people speculating about a possible engagement, don't wear gargantuan diamond rings out in public.
Cameron Diaz broke that cardinal rule Wednesday, when she attended the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures' Hollywood Costume Exhibition luncheon sporting a luminescent new ring. The web has since been aflutter with speculation that the 42-year-old star might be engaged to her not-so-longtime boyfriend, Benji Madden.
According to an eyewitness, Diaz was not shy about her very noticeable accessory, and proudly displayed it for tablemates that included Gwyneth Paltrow.
Diaz was again spotted later in the evening, this time with Madden in tow. The couple dined at Beverly Hills celeb haunt Madeo, and Diaz was once again sporting the ring. We weren't there, but the rumor is all other patrons were forced to sport their Gucci shades to prevent from going blind.
While this is all conjecture at this point, we're operating under the assumption that where there's smoke, there's fire. Or, in this case, where there's a blinding diamond ring, there's an engagement. (People)
