Would Your Ex Throw You A Party? Chris Martin Did For Gwyneth

Love means never having to say you're sorry. And, apparently, conscious uncoupling means throwing your ex a birthday party even though you've already moved on to a 24-year-old actress. Hey ho!

Vying for the title of Best Ex Ever, Chris Martin reportedly hosted a star-studded birthday party for Gwyneth Paltrow on Saturday. Paltrow, with whom the Coldplay singer shares two children, turned 42 that day — which is as good an excuse as any to throw a cocktail party with a frisson of awkward tension. (Or so we imagine; clearly these two aren't your average exes.)

“[Martin and Paltrow] were very friendly to each other," a spy at the party told Page Six. "It was like they’re still best friends.”

The party, hosted at Paltrow's Los Angeles home, included guests like Paltrow's Goop colleagues, fellow moms from school, and celebrity pals like Nicole Richie, Kate Hudson, and Matt Bellamy. Jennifer Aniston, who you may remember shares a very famous ex with the birthday girl, was also present. Let's just hope everyone stuck to sipping cocktails and not, say, totally loaded games of Never Have I Ever and Truth or Dare.

Paltrow later shared an Instagram snap thanking fans for the birthday wishes, saying that she felt loved.

Martin Lawrence fans (yes, that's what we're calling them now) needn't worry, however. Martin managed to sneak in a romantic date with new girlfriend Jennifer Lawrence on Friday. The budding couple booked a private cabin on Las Vegas' High Roller observation wheel so they could enjoy sky-high views of the city. Because, of course being suspended hundreds of feet above ground is just the sort of situation you want to be in when you break the news to your new flame that you're throwing a party for your ex.

Kidding, kidding. Obviously this crowd is much more well-adjusted and mature than the norm. We bow down. (Page Six)
