Her music career is booming, and she's reportedly dating Robert Pattison. But, no, all is not well in FKA twigs' world.
The singer (real name: Tahliah Barnett) points to Internet trolls who she says have been blasting her with racist comments. For the record, the London-based star has a Jamaican father and a mother who is of English and Spanish descent — none of which people really seemed to be bothered about until RPattz came on the scene.
It appears that many of the offensive comments directed towards twigs were reported to Instagram and have since been removed, either by the site or the original poster. The comments section of her Instagram feed is a full-on battlefield, with fans defending the singer from her critics. Meanwhile, fans of Pattinson's ex, Kristen Stewart, have taken to posting "Robsten is unbroken" over and over. No wonder twigs got annoyed.
All this drama comes on the heel of last week's FADER feature reconciling FKA twigs' desire for privacy with her relationship with one of Hollywood's biggest heartthrobs.
Back in February, the Londoner told the magazine that she was unwilling to sacrifice her private life for the sake of fame. "If I lose too much privacy, that's it: I'm gone," she said. "I would still want to create, but I'd just create quietly. I'll just go and live somewhere where nobody gives a shit about FADER and Pitchfork or Dazed. I'll go somewhere were no one cares about those sorts of things.”
Obviously, at the time she couldn't have known that her love life would be grist for the gossip mill. Will the unwelcome reactions force her to retreat or end her relationship with Pattinson? Or, will she fight it out and let the haters hate and waste their negative energy doing so? Her latest Instagram post may be a telling clue.
The caption: "Arrow Jamaica Latina Bambina." Deal with it, haters.
