Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda” Video Has Landed

After a few delays and some hype-building teasers, Nicki Minaj's "Anaconda" video is finally here. We're calling it: totally worth the wait.
The Colin Tilley-directed piece draws viewers in with its jungle-on-acid art direction. Think intense colors, bananas and pineapples spinning around turntables, and close-ups of vibrating booties aplenty.
It's hard to top the giant derriere sculpture (mountain?) from Sir Mix-A-Lot's iconic video, but the amount of twerking trunks, donkey kicks, and gyrating glutes here at least lands this work as one of the most memorable — and straight-up objectifying — music videos of all time. It also makes a handy workout video in a pinch.

In case the "anaconda" reference didn't land, this tune is all about praising the female form — specifically, as it applies to Minaj's own headline-worthy backside. The rapper has no qualms about objectifying her own body while hating on "skinny bitches in the club" — which is to say it's not quite the body-diversity anthem that we'd hope.
Further, there are sapphic undertones and scenes in which Minaj deep-throats a banana and douses herself in whipped cream while dressed as a French maid. And, at the end, she gives Drake (yes, that Drake) a private lap dance, turning him into a voiceless, agency-less plaything. Is there such a thing as sexy-awkward? This is that.
