Robin Williams seemed like the kind of guy you just wanted to hug, and Mila Kunis just reminded us why. He was, as has been said often this past week, a nice guy — or more than a nice guy, really. A gentle soul. So, it was no surprise to read this previously unpublished excerpt from a 2012 Esquire magazine interview with Kunis.
The pair had just filmed The Angriest Man in Brooklyn together, but the memory she recalled was from when she was 15 or 16. They were filming in the same studio, and she tagged along with Kurtwood Smith to meet Williams, who was in full-on elephantiasis makeup. Not knowing what to say, she went with nothing until Robin asked her name. "You're on '70s?” he asked (he knew). And, when she said yes, he told her not to forget how lucky she was. “Step back and appreciate this. You're having an amazing time....And don't forget to enjoy yourself because things like this don't happen to everyone.”
Kunis reminded Williams of this when they were filming the The Angriest Man together. “It stands true," he said. "Today, right now, at this very moment, step back and appreciate it.”
Most of the stories we've heard about Robin this past week are about his legendary performances and epic standup acts, but Mila reminds us that off-camera he was just a guy with a job standing around talking to coworkers. He might've been dressed like an Elephant Man, but a job is a job, right? (Elle)
