Twitter Study Says Paris Hilton Smarter Than J.K. Rowling

For someone who never went to college, it turns out Leonardo DiCaprio is pretty well read. Time analyzed the tweets of the 500 most followed celebrities on Twitter to determine who's smart and who's not. Leo topped the list.

But, that's not the real surprise here.

First things first: By no means do book smarts automatically equal intelligence, but for the sake of this list, let's go with it. Time used what it claims is a "commonly used reading comprehension test" to determine who had the highest reading levels, based solely on their tweets.

JWoww placed eighth on the list, while Paris Hilton placed 15th. That means both reality stars finished ahead of the likes of noted brainiacs such as Stephen Colbert, Stephen Fry, J.K. Rowling, and Zach Galifianakis. Which is just wrong.

According to Time, the methodology is "based on a reading comprehension test known as Simple Measure of Gobbledygook (SMOG). The SMOG test measures the number of three syllable words used in a text to calculate the years of education required to understand it." If you're up for it, you can measure yourself against Paris (or anyone else) with the tool itself here.

So if J.K. takes issue with the fact that Paris Hilton ranked higher than she did, we'd recommend that she step up her word game, stat. Might we suggest doing it in another Harry Potter short story?
