This Is A Stegosaurus In Song Form

So, rest assured we're not lying when we say we're bubbling over with excitement about Kina Grannis' new song, "Oh Father," off her upcoming album Elements (dropping May 6). Here's what you gotta know:

Grannis' story is one that goes to show how much you can accomplish when you just put yourself out there. She's been jiving to the beat of her own drum for years, and "Oh Father" is a testament to that. According to Kina, the track captures her view of songwriting perfectly. When she spoke with Refinery29, Kina related songwriting to archaeology — it's about digging up dirt to find bones, and then piecing them all together. "Sometimes you only find a head, and no matter how hard you try you can't find its body and the song will forever be a tiny unfinished part," she said. "But, sometimes, as was the case with 'Oh Father,' you find a Stegosaurus head and a T. rex body." Turns out this track almost didn't make it onto Elements. Luckily, however, "just when I had almost given up, there it was," Grannis concluded. "I found the matching body to my Stegosaurus head, and the song was finally right. Now, it's one of my favorites.” Ours, too.
