Iggy Azalea & Rita Ora’s New Song Sounds A Lot Like Katy Perry

Iggy Azalea's debut LP, The New Classic, doesn't officially drop until April 22, but her track with Rita Ora, "Black Widow," has surfaced. And, well, it's a banger.
Right off the bat, Ora's vocals build before dropping into a heavy trap-beat, one often heard in pop music these days. Trap-pop? Sure, but despite how massive "Black Widow" is, it bears a striking resemblance to another pop smash: Katy Perry's "Dark Horse." Perhaps it's the nature of the genre, but Azalea's not reinventing the wheel with this track. "Black Widow" is, at its best, reductive. "Dark Horse," too, felt like a pop star trying to do trap. But, it rose to the top of the charts nonetheless because its formula is catchy and that's what gets the people going these days. (This isn't a bad thing; it's just the candy-coated pill we swallow each time we turn on the Top 40s.)
That said, "Black Widow" isn't terrible. It's destined to be a single off The New Classic. If anything, it'll be the lifeblood in the wee hours of the morning, when the dance floor is at its peak and girls drop everything to get down to "their song" (which will likely be yelled the moment they recognize the beat).
