Kiernan Shipka's acting career looks like it's going to be in pretty good shape when Mad Men rides off into the sunset later this year. At just 14 years old, the ingenue has already nabbed her very own Vanity Fair spread, a rite of passage for any young star.
As Sally, the daughter of the martini-swilling misanthrope Don Draper, Shipka has grown up in front of our eyes. We've seen her transform into an ethereal thespian with both a strong sense of self and a style icon's wardrobe. While the structured Balenciaga frock she dons here is absolutely striking, the vintage Céline sweater, rag & bone drop-waist skirt, and bright Miu Miu bag that she wore to the interview are what really have us gushing.
The extended profile also includes high praise from Kiernan's onscreen dad, Jon Hamm, who admits that working with child actors can sometimes be a bit of a crapshoot. Not so with Shipka, whom Hamm calls "a very well-behaved, preternaturally mature kid, and a pleasure to be around... She’s actually just a delight.”
In an industry that tends to swallow child actors whole, being this poised and grounded bodes well for Shipka. As for her onscreen counterpart this season, well, we suspect she won't be as lucky. (Vanity Fair)
