The Perfect Modern Day Woman — According to Alice Temperley

She’s draped Royal derrieres in the finest of gowns, holds the title of MBE, and has the red-carpet style elite on speed dial. No wonder, then, that British designer Alice Temperley describes one of the most photographed women in the world, Kate Middleton, as her idea of “the perfect modern day woman.”
Talking to The Telegraph’s Sarah Rainey, the British fashion designer sings high praise for the Middleton sisters, Kate and Pippa, describing them as “lovely girls,” before moving onto the Duchess herself. “She’s very graceful, gracious and she’s a brilliant ambassador for British fashion. She mixes up designer and high street; the perfect modern-day woman.” A fitting description, given the Duchess’ most recent outing was another lesson in high-low mixing and dress recycling.
Staying firmly tight-lipped about her celebrity clientele, Temperley declined to comment on whether she’d be the designer of choice once Pippa decides to tie the knot. Given label's emerald-green, backless dress Pippa wore to the royal wedding reception — it's not an entirely improbable presumption.
Describing her childhood growing up on a Somerset cider farm as “beautiful, free, and properly English,” perfectly pitched against her “rather wild” rebellious teen years in the '90s, Temperley credits her meticulous work ethic and the wonders of motherhood as being the reasons she loves her work. “I haven’t stopped since I started.” Hardworking doesn’t cover it. I’m lucky because I love every minute,” she said.
But, as much as she is talented, the substance behind this quintessentially British designer is hard to miss. Her John Lewis Somerset range proved to be a sell-out success for the department store, and her ability to harmoniously balance the demands of keeping a multi-million-pound business afloat makes us love her all that more. No wonder the Royals are obsessed. (The Telegraph)
