OITNB’s Crazy Eyes’ Laid The Discourse Of Julianne Hough’s Costume To Bed

This past Halloween, everyone and their mother, brother, and grandmother seemed to have an opinion about Julianne Hough's costume of choice. The Orange Is the New Black-inspired prison garb and bundles of hair atop her head would have been fine. Hough, however, took it upon herself to not only embody Uzo Aduba's Crazy Eyes, but become her — as in, she donned blackface. Needless to say, the world erupted in a frenzy of costume ethics and how-dare-you op-eds.
Until now, Aduba has stood in silent solidarity. "I think maybe it was an unfortunate event,” she recently told E!, “but she apologized and I feel like we can all move on." Said apology went something like this: "It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way," Hough tweeted. "I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize."
Ironically, Aduba seems to be one of the least affected people. She's taking the high road of askew indifference instead of ripping Hough a new one. While nothing can make up for Hough's actions, if Aduba can move on, so can we. (E!)
