The Cheapie Lipstick That’s Better Than The Pricey Ones

Certain beauty products — think NARS blush in Orgasm, Clinique's Black Honey lipstick — are so good, they're practically famous. And, while we do love so many of those well-known, well-loved products with a loyal following, we've been wondering why others have been quietly flying under the radar. With that in mind, meet our new beauty series, Cult Classics, in which we'll introduce you to the products you really, truly should know about (and try, like, right now). They're not brand new, but trust us: They've got staying power.
There's no beauty product that brings more joy to our hearts than lipstick. And, while we definitely worship at the altar of more than a few luxe lippies, we don't think you need to spend a fortune to get a quality pout perfector. The lipstick that taught us this money-saving life lesson? Nyx Cosmetics Matte Lipstick.
Now, we've been burned by our fair share of drugstore lip colors. The affordable prices we were initially so thrilled about turned out to be hiding hues that were weak, gummy-textured, slid off our lips in a matter of minutes, or just didn't look as awesome on our lips as they did in the tube.
Not so with Nyx — its matte lipstick glides on like butter, stays in place for hours on end, and delivers the most vibrant pigments we've seen this side of a drugstore aisle. When a makeup artist we love revealed she swore by their lippies, that sealed the deal for us.
While we still splurge on the occasional Tom Ford or Lipstick Queen every now and then as a special treat, it's Nyx's gorgeous array that makes up our everyday lipstick arsenal. We've got a collect 'em all mentality — and at less than $6 a pop, we just might do that.
Nyx Cosmetics Matte Lipstick, $5.99, available at Ulta.
