Ted Cruz Won’t Shut Up With This Filibuster Business

Sen. Ted Cruz is still talking. He's been talking since a little after 2:30 yesterday, faux-filibustering on the Senate floor. Cruz, a Tea Party Republican from Texas, is trying to make a point about Obamacare before an upcoming key test vote. And yes, we said "faux-filibuster. As Frank James of NPR said yesterday, "It was mostly for show. Sen. Harry Reid, the Senate majority leader, said Cruz's extended Senate floor speech wasn't really a filibuster because the vote to end debate and bring up the House bill would go on as scheduled."
Still, Cruz promised yesterday, "I intend to speak until I cannot stand." As with many true filibusters, in which senators have resorted to tactics like reading the phone book, Cruz has been able to keep up his marathon speech by going slightly off-topic, discussing Green Eggs and Ham, Nazis, Ashton Kutcher, the Book of Proverbs, White Castle, and Star Wars. As of this morning, he had been speaking for over 18 hours. Here are some highlights courtesy of the Washington Post:

Cruz has taken a few breaks, yielding to other Senators for questions. But as of right now, he's still going. Watch him live on C-SPAN if you want to know what happens at the end of Green Eggs and Ham. (NPR)
