Lady Gaga Defends One Direction At The MTV VMAs

When it comes to fan adoration, One Direction usually takes the top spot. In fact, for a music award voted on by said fans, it's easy to assume that the boy band would get a standing ovation. Sadly, that wasn't the case at last night's VMAs — instead, the shade Taylor Swift threw during her acceptance speech had some hang time that sent the audience into a booing spree while the five Brits thanked their "fans." While Swift might have been quietly screaming for joy, Lady Gaga was not having it.
In one of the warmest moments of an overall lukewarm show, Gaga hit the press room and launched into a mini pep talk. The cameras kept rolling as Gaga defended the boy band: "If I did hear what I heard out there, I just want to tell you that you deserve every bit of success that you have, and don't you dare let those people boo you. I put that booing in my own show because I wanted to make a comment about that. I want to leave right now — I don't even want to stay anymore because I don't want to be in a room where people are going to be like that. You deserve a lot."
Whether or not she walked her talk and actually left the show is a mystery, but she did sneak in a few photos with the group. "I feel slightly underdressed," Louis Tomlinson joked as he and the rest of the One Direction gathered around a very naked Lady Gaga. Check out the full moment below:
