It's Sunday FUNday again, which means it's time for another R29 editor to share the new books, TV, movies, and music that have her (or him!) excited for the week ahead. Today, Connie Wang, our senior global editor, is offering up her three picks.
Read: Every Meal Almanzo Eats In Laura Ingalls Wilder's Farmer Boy
Even though I grew up in the Midwest, I was far from outdoorsy, but I had a long obsession with Laura Ingalls Wilder. My favorite book from the series was Farmer Boy, the only one not to feature Laura, coincidentally, and instead told the story of her husband, Almanzo Wilder, as he grew up on a lucrative farm in upstate New York. The majority of the book constituted of nearly pornographic descriptions of food and eating, and I swear my affinity toward old-timey country foods like hominy and salt pork were born from this book. Jia Tolentino over at The Hairpin so graciously compiled every single food scene from Farmer Boy on July 16, and I've already reread this article about two dozen times. Vinegar pie? Apples 'n' onions? Succotash? This compilation is my happy place.
Watch: Clear History
Larry David and I have a strange relationship, in that I totally find his stuff funny but so cringeworthy that I always end up running away from the TV when things get too awkward, and then back again because I want to know what happens. His new HBO film
Clear History is an hour and a half of Curb Your Enthusiasm's wit and horribleness, starring an A-list cast with Kate Hudson, Jon Hamm, Eva Mendes, and a bat-shit insane Michael Keaton. I swear I got a workout sprinting to and from my living room.
Play: Blood Orange — "Hold On We're Going Home" (Drake Cover)
Dev Hynes (a.k.a. Blood Orange) takes Drake's excellent (if slightly depressing) new track 'Hold On We're Going Home' and adds an '80s yacht-funk vibe that would make Peter Gabriel blush. It's goofy, glossy, and great all at once.
