Royal fashion, it's becoming a national obsession, isn't it? If we’re not gushing over Kate Middleton’s latest with-bump look, then we’re questioning Princess Beatrice’s choice of headwear, or scouring the image archive for regal fashion direction from the past. And, whilst K-Mid easily takes the title of the chicest princess of the 21st century, deciding on the reigning champ of the last one is tricky. Princess Di or Princess Margaret — tough call, right?
This Thursday, a new exhibition opens at Kensington Palace showcasing the seriously showstopping dresses worn by the Queen, Princess Margaret, and the Princess of Wales. As if organised to satisfy our needs whilst Kate Middleton is on maternity leave, the selection of decadent gowns is split across three rooms, traversing the decades of each style icon’s heyday. The Queen’s room is filled with designs from Norman Hartnell and Hardy Amies, but it’s her sister’s and daughter-in-law's rooms that have our sartorial radars buzzing.

Princess Margaret’s room offers an impressive Eastern turban and grand furs from Christian Dior, whilst the People's Princess’s room showcases sassy one-shoulder numbers and a lot of '80s panache. Told you it was a tough one. Now, which princess are you most inspired by? (Daily Mail)
