Yet Another Reason To Watch That Stunning Diana Vreeland Doc Again

DV
A documentary on the legendary fashion editor Diana Vreeland has won the Design Museum’s 2013 Fashion Design prize. The annual awards hosted by the museum aims to celebrate the best in international design. Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has To Travel beat off stiff competition for this award. Louis Vuitton’s collaboration with Yayoi Kusama and Raf Simon’s first collection for Christian Dior were both nominees.
Ilse Crawford, the chairperson of the jury, explained the decision, “[Vreeland] took fashion design to another level, reaching a wider audience and creating a greater understanding of the fashion world. So many of her achievements are taken for granted – for example, the fact that she brought fashion into the context of the museum. And she never stopped. The longevity of her career is astounding.”
If you haven’t seen the documentary, be sure to order it through any online portal you can. It’s a fascinating visual journey into the career of a woman who didn’t "do" ordinary, normal, or safe. It provides a deeper understanding of a person who, for many, is just a collection of outrageous fashion “why don’t you” proclamations. Congratulations are very much in order. (Vogue)
