Matthews is not alone in their experiences. According to the new 2018 Women in the Workplace study in the US
, put together by LeanIn.Org and McKinsey & Company, women still face significant barriers in the workplace, and progress has been painfully slow. This year’s report found that, overall, female professionals still receive far less support from their managers
than men do. In fact, women are much less likely to have managers give them the resources they need to succeed, less likely to receive help navigating organisational politics, and generally less likely to get promoted. And while all women are affected by these trends, women of colour are particularly burdened.
