Okay everyone, this is a crucial question: Are you a geek, a nerd, or a dork? Now that everyone and their kitten is a part of a comic-book franchise, tech start-ups are like 2013's ubiquitous socialites, STEM rules, and you might not actually be cool unless you know what the sigil of House Stark is, "geek," "nerd," and "dork" is a particular distinction to make. Because, according to a much heated office conversation, there is a huge difference. We just — admittedly — don't know what it is.
Our possible division goes as follows: A "geek" "geeks out" about something that isn't, say, a sports team but is a niche, but deep community. They know the ins and outs of a 'Verse or several 'Verses (the Buffy-Verse, Trek-Verse, Westeros-Verse, etc.), and have no shame in having that be a part of their identity. (Because, um, why should they? Knowing things rules.) By comparison, a dork is someone who is admittedly unsmooth or maybe lacks the social niceties (i.e. Emma Stone's whole schtick). Finally, a nerd pushes up their glasses and digs into a particular subject, prizing intellect above all. So, we want to know, are we right? What are your distinctions?
Or should we combine them all into one super-persona, and call it a "Gernork"? (For the record, we are definitely gernorks. Gernorks for President, 2024!
