Every year, there's always a chorus of complaints about holiday decor being hung before the leaves have turned red and carols being blasted through mall corridors before anyone's even opened the first door on their Advent calendars. But when it comes to savings, I think we can all agree that the markdowns can never come too soon. It's one instance where more really is merrier.
It’s definitely not too early to start thinking about your holiday shopping, especially if you have your eye on specific items like outerwear and apparel; makeup or skincare icons from your fave beauty brands; luggage and other travel essentials; or big-ticket items for your home (mattresses, for example).
What is Black Friday?
Black Friday is a mega shopping holiday that coincides with American Thanksgiving. The name was coined in Philadelphia in the early 1960s to describe the chaos of suburbanites flocking into the city centre the day after the big turkey dinner to begin their gift buying. It wasn't until the '80s that the term caught on nationwide in the U.S. and merchants began dropping prices to encourage spending. The holiday really caught on in Canada as e-commerce became more prevalent, resulting in great deals north of the border. Along with that uptick in online sales came Cyber Monday — another day of deals that stretched markdowns from a single day to an entire long weekend and beyond.
When do Black Friday deals start?
This year Black Friday lands on Nov. 25th. But there are great fashion, beauty and home deals happening throughout the month of November as well.
