When George Clooney proposed to Amal Alamuddin earlier this year, he did it over a home-cooked meal. Dwyane Wade and Brad Pitt both enlisted their children to help pop the question, while Aaron Paul got engaged to now-wife Lauren Parsekian after dancing with her in a Paris courtyard on New Year's Eve.
And then there are those celebrities for whom dropping the "Will you marry me?" bomb is an opportunity to pull out all the stops. Helicopter rides, fantasy destinations, orchestras, the occasional custom igloo — if they can dream it, they'll do it.
Unfortunately, some of these couples have since split, proving that a lavish proposal doesn't guarantee a happy marriage. Apparently, not even a trip to the Eiffel Tower can make up for a husband who believes that aliens live inside you.
Others, however, are still going strong after their blowout engagements. A hefty ring and a luxury suite exploding with roses may not be the secret to everlasting love, but we won't tell your boyfriend that.
