Your Horoscope This Week

Illustrated by Abbie Winters.
The planets are throwing 2017 a fabulous goodbye party. The forces of friendship, love, and sparkly fun jump out of a cake, brandishing their noisemakers and inviting you to spend the evening exchanging tales of your most recent trip around the sun.
You will wake up hungover with feeling going into 2018. An intense Cancer full moon on Monday makes you want instant gratification for needs that change too quickly to be sure of. A collective time-out is called for. Stay in bed, read, meditate, force-cuddle a small animal, preferably domesticated. On Tuesday, you’re ready to turn your feelings into creative action. New Year’s resolutions about art-making, volunteering, or supporting others are sparking and in search of a wick to light. You won’t be forced to make anything of the pleasant vibes, but just do it. The more you put yourself out there, the more connected you’ll feel to others — and social connections are associated with good mental health.
Dark, serious Capricorn season can bring out depression — it’s one of the main associations with the sign. It will be easy this week to skulk indoors, cocooning yourself in comfort and escape. A more awesome, more energizing use of the influence is to schedule friend dates, pursue a crush, treat your sweetie, manifest a dream into concrete reality, or go out your way for someone who needs help. Capricorn energy makes us happy, in its old-man-ish way, when we forge ahead with a goal that’s as meaningful to our community as to ourselves.
On Saturday, we have a once a decade surge of focused fight when Mars meets Jupiter in Scorpio. This power pair pours jet fuel onto the week’s inspired spark. If you’ve managed to direct your inspiration toward a goal, next week will give you the thunderous aiaiiiee! to see it through. Do watch out for fiery tempers, though — yours included.

December 22 to January 19

Your birthday season is a mixed bag. On the one hand, there’s a ton of celebration; on the other, it’s not exactly for you. It’s easy to feel neglected, especially with Monday’s full moon tugging you and your co-pilots’ needs to the surface. Expressing feelings is important — you could even say it’s one of your relationship responsibilities — so do your best to roll with the lack of resolution. Feelings don’t need to be fixed, but they do need to be heard. If a sweetie, bestie, or collaborator gets sensitive, listen up and try to understand where they’re coming from. If you’re the one bent out of shape, do let others know what you’re feeling, as kindly as possible. Over the next few weeks, you’ll be able to integrate what you’ve learned into relationship improvements. For now, though, just let it flow.

There’s a sweetness to the rest of the week that might make it easier than usual to enjoy yourself while, as per usual, pursuing your super-serious goals. Since October, your friendships, professional network, politics, and visions for your future have been sources of important discoveries and — ideally — a place you go to get inspiration. This week, that part of your life is asking for your action and leadership. What do you want out of the groups you participate in? Is there something missing that you can start? A collective project to throw your weight behind? Or do you need to set yourself free?

January 20 to February 18

Feelings might not make much sense, but they sure keep life interesting. Monday’s full moon pops up around health and work, throwing a temporary wrench into your routine. There’s an opportunity here to figure out what’s going inside you and even see a way you’re working against yourself. It’ll take a minute to turn observation into insight, so let understanding percolate and keep noticing those signals in your body and environment.

Your ruling planet, Uranus, turns direct on Tuesday. It’s been retrograde over the last six months, so you’re likely to feel this as a clarifying bolt from the blue. Uranus wants you to be authentically you in your communications, which might mean speaking a sudden truth. For the best results, treat any listener as an ally and potential friend, respecting their freedom to disagree and inviting space for common ground.

Toward the end of the week, a bold leader (you?) steps up in your professional sphere inspiring a gutsy risk. You have a strong sense of what people can do when they come together. So long as you’re as promoting that collective interest, this is a great time to step out and do things your way.

February 19 to March 20

The paradox of a lucid dream is that you know you’re asleep, yet it feels as real as waking life. In that kind of dream, you wish superpowers into yourself or find yourself confusingly powerless as the dream, resisting your control, refuses to let you fly or turn invisible or walk through walls. In waking life, we know there’s not much we can control. We can’t, for instance, turn gravity upside down, or decide which job will hire us, or mind-control our ex into coming back.

This week, Pisces, you’re in a state partway between nebulous dream and hard reality. Your visions are close to the surface—so close you might have trouble telling where your feelings are influencing your perceptions. Don’t get tricked by your fears into thinking reality has more power over you than it actually does. Because your imagination is so active, you can do a lot to make those hopes and ideas real. The key is treating this like a lucid dream where you’re the superhero. Move toward the loving future you want, holding your vision above you like a light. You might not have as much power as in your wildest fantasies, but I’d bet you have more than you think.

March 21 to April 19

They say home is where the heart is, but they didn’t account for how much would be going on in your professional life. This week, you’re at your most vivacious out in the world, answering a call for your skills and talents. Unfortunately, the creatures you cohabitate with — and your family — feel differently. Irritation and wonky communication flares around the full moon, demanding that you address the imbalance. You can get away with ignoring your yowling, lonely cat this week, but if you do, that fluffy, prickly pal will be pooping in your favorite sneakers by mid-month. You’re a champion of others when you remember they’re there, so pay a little extra attention. What does your mother really need from you? That daily call she’s asking for may be satisfied by a funny meme messaged over lunch. Getting an unhappy loved one (and your guilt) off your back is a win of its own. Another bonus, though, is investing in an ally for the future. You’ve got big plans and, at some point, you’ll need the support of others to get them off the ground.

With your ruling planet Mars in Scorpio, you’re in a strategic frame of mind, ideally focused on a specific, exciting goal. You’re like a bullet in a chamber, aimed at your (non-violent) target. The trick here is avoiding getting so hopped up you fire yourself too early or at the wrong place — like at someone who you perceive as standing in your way. Be patient with others, while giving yourself space to work independently. Once that trigger pulls, you’ll be relishing the speed you can zip by at solo.

April 20 to May 20

People love to overcomplicate things. They throw gobs of words at a situation, as if the more they talk, the clearer a conflict gets. But too much talk clogs communication, covering up what’s essential. Quiet, on the other hand, makes space for the real to rise to the surface. You are likely gifted in the art of quiet, Taurus, knowing how comfortable a pause can be. In quiet, we have time to think and to hear. In quiet, our bodies signal us yes or no.

Around Monday’s full moon, others’ voices — the news, your Facebook feed, randos around the neighborhood — reach a deafening pitch. It’s pure reaction, anger, defensiveness, fear, self-protection. No offense to feelings, but they’re too unstable to take totally seriously. Rather than getting dragged into the noise, use your power of quiet to clarify and filter. By mid-week, you’ll have a better sense of how, and if, to respond in a way that strengthens your relationships.

Action is needed, especially in how you join forces with others. If a friend, romantic partner or collaborator seems to be acting selfish, check out your behavior before reacting. Again, quiet is your friend. Listen and when you know the truth, take the lead for the partnership’s best interest.

May 21 to June 20

Every day is a fusion cuisine smorgasbord of options. Do you fill your plate with the sweet potatoes of friend time, the tofu dogs of hot sex, the fried rice of money-making or the tangy ranch dressing of trivia night at the bar? The great thing about a smorgasbord is that you can have it all. But there is also bad news, Twinsies: Your favorite buffet changed ownership, and the new boss says you can only get one entrée, a side dish, and drink. "Priorities" is the name of the restaurant and the theme of the moment.

Paring down is uncomfortable. It leads to the dreaded FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) and can provoke the Gemini-ish terror of getting bored. The funny thing is, that when you’re sampling every dish, it’s easy to forget to appreciate the rich, complex flavors. This week, heap intimacy, sex, secrets, psychology and supporting others onto your plate. Your question-asking talents will keep you interested, and you may discover there’s much more going on beneath the surface than you imagined. It’s these focused time-outs that make future trips to the multi-tasking Gemini smorgasbord meaningful. You may even find yourself thanking restaurant ownership for the limited menu.

June 21 to July 22

Monday’s full moon has everyone and their mother acting like a weepy, prickly Cancer stereotype. You’re at home with the energy, meaning you can use it as a means of focus if you want. Don’t expect a lot of support — most people don’t have the emotional skills to take care of themselves and others at the same time. You won’t need others’ support, though, so long as you have your own. It’s a good moment to nestle into some alone time and incubate your New Year’s resolutions. What do you want to give birth to this year, Cancer? What feeling wants to find a physical container? Where are you craving steadiness and how can you give it to yourself?

Fires are sparking on the dating and creative front right now. It’s an awesome time for taking an artistic risk, making a bold move on a crush (gender stereotypes be damned) and even making babies (maybe don’t combine those last two activities though?). You’re often happy to let others think what they want about you, but this week, paint yourself bright so you can be seen. Only by being your truest, strongest self can you leave your mark.

July 23 to August 22

You likely have a big personality and have learned to use it to get results. Whether you’re playing the role of a leader, lover, or a firebrand, people react to you, ideally with happiness and appreciation but sometimes with exasperation or anger. Because you know how to fill situations with a sense of purpose and fun, it’s natural to put yourself in charge. Knowing the difference between what you can control and can’t, though, is one of the trickiest parts of being human. To maintain our illusions of power, we bury unwanted insight and overlook outlier opinions and people who resent our influence. Around Monday’s full moon, those blind spots are likely to pop into view, challenging your self-image and shaking up your sense of order.

The moody energy will pass quickly, but be willing to learn from what you’ve seen. Wise observation can only strengthen your position, inspiring you to make the world around you lastingly better instead of temporarily happier.

At the end of the week, bring that energy home with meaningful “renovations.” Whether you've got a longstanding family issue or a recent landlord conflict, any change is likely to be successful so long as it’s in the interest of everyone’s long-term happiness.

August 23 to September 22

Sense might be more beautiful than passion, but you won’t win any arguments saying so. They must be giving away free high horses down at the virtual saloon because this week everyone thinks they’re the sheriff. Still, a subtle, correct method will eventually prove itself against a loud, incorrect one. Around Monday’s full moon, avoid getting into it with friends or online. Within the mess of flying emotions, there may be a detail that helps you improve how you’re operating socially. Let the dust settle before you decide how to how to implement it, though.

Be attentive to flaws in your logic where you’ve become too attached to being right. Any communication issues, especially with family, point to an area where you could use a little perspective. Even if it feels rude, asking honest questions will help you see the big picture.

As the week progresses, there’s an itch to do something with your knowledge. Put your expertise, or the details of your experience down in writing. Video, sound recordings or even teaching a workshop are equally good outlets. Whatever you do, act! The skills and understanding you’ve acquired will help others, but only if you share them.

September 23 to October 22

Nothing is quite right under Monday’s full moon. As soon as you get plans the way you like them, someone is displeased or rude. Get-togethers at home are likely to be undercut by uncooperative friends, or demands from work. Try to remember that others’ behavior is not a reflection on you, and the feeling will pass.

Mid-week social plans go much more smoothly. A structured activity everyone can do together calms frazzled nerves and helps everyone get along. Spend extra time with your family now, aiming to strike a balance between responsibilities and enjoying one another’s company. Efforts you make now to make yourself feel at home around your closest people will radiate out through the rest of 2018 and form good memories to draw on.

Others’ brash, single-minded behavior might irk you later in the week, especially if their righteousness tramples over what you value. Improve your mood by taking a smart risk to boost your bottom line—or to stand up for those trampled values yourself. It’s healthy for you to take a strong position, but do be transparent about where you’re coming from.

October 23 to November 21

Monday’s tumultuous full moon has you noticing differences between what you believe and what you say aloud, especially when it involves losing someone’s trust or setting yourself apart. There’s isolation, though, that comes from neglecting your inner voice. The full moon’s light is somewhat unreliable, but even so, pay attention to what it illuminates. The loneliness of secrecy can do long-term damage to relationships that is irreparable. Fortunately, this week offers you a rare opportunity to act boldly for those beliefs, bringing an inner truth out of the closet once and for all.

No matter what the Rolling Stones think, this week you can get what you want — if you pursue your desire with characteristic Scorpionic intensity. Your empathy, truthfulness and your strategic self-interest can work together on this. The key is altruism. A transformation that deeply benefits you — rather than just shoring up your power — should change others’ lives for the better. The risk in store should raise the little hairs on the back of your neck and make your heart beat faster. You hold so much power, Phoenix; step up, speak, teach, ask mind-blowing questions and send your ripple waves out through the world.

November 22 to December 21

Money can’t buy love, but having faith you can take care of yourself is priceless. Some might even say that getting your bills paid on time is true self-love. Whether or not you make sure you’ll be able to afford groceries (or for big-picture thinkers, RETIREMENT) next week can reveal a lot about how much you value yourself. It’s super-important that you fight the boredom of money management and face up to your deep-ass $$$ issues — the ones that live in your psyche as well as in your situation.

Monday’s full moon is likely to stir up feelings, conflicts and possible connections around sharing vs. saving, debt vs. income, and the obvious barriers to financial security vs. the hidden ones. Let it all out responsibly, but save the decision-making (and spending) until the mood fades.

Another thing under the surface this week is inspiration. Your dreams and subconscious are practically leaking insight. You’re extra energized, but only for those activities that feel meaningful and connected to a larger sense of purpose. If you’re over-busy, distracted, or around people constantly, you might feel less inspired and more under attack by secretive meanies. Make a date for a solo retreat to somewhere that tickles the back of your brain. You can achieve a ton right now, so make sure your arrow is pointed in a good direction.
