If you say you’ve never developed a hardcore crush on a sitcom character, then sorry, we have to call you out for dropping a major fib. We're not ashamed to admit tuning into network shows week after week to get a glimpse of on-screen cuties, including those on The Mindy Project. In fact, to promote its latest episodes, TMP has even created profiles for its characters on the casual dating app, Tinder. Be still our hearts.
"Tiny doctor in a big city looking for love, friendship, or a donut so good it’s spiritual," reads the bio for Mindy Kaling’s eponymous character on the Fox show. And, before you’re tricked into meeting her with a cronut in hand, the ad ends with the line, “To see more about me, tune-in to THE MINDY PROJECT this Tuesday at 9:30/8:30c on Fox.”
Apparently, the show’s target audience is young singles, so what better way to draw their attention than trying to fake-date them into tuning in. Also, does this mean normal promotional commercials are so 2013? Either way, this method is totally part practical joke, part genius marketing, and we expect nothing less from Kaling and her crew.
