This Summer-Proof Makeup Won't Suffocate Your Face

Photographed by Tom Corbett.
While we like our full-coverage foundations and matte lipsticks in the winter, ain't nobody got time for that mess come summer. With the sticky humidity and sweltering heat, the makeup we put on in the morning can feel like a horrible, thick mask by mid-afternoon. And that's not fun for anyone.

But us makeup lovers aren't just going to go barefaced for three months — that would be a little drastic, no? Luckily, there are products that are actually fine — scratch that, pleasant — to wear from June through August. Ahead, find the tubes, bottles, and jars that we're stocking up on this season. Thanks to these lightweight wonders, you might forget you're even wearing makeup at all.

Goopy, gloppy mascaras are a drag when temps rise — especially when they wind up halfway down your face. Estée Lauder's Little Black Primer adds a black tint — and nothing else — to your lashes. So you can get a defined look without the heavy formula.

Still feel the need for foundation in the summer? Totally cool. You'll want to reach for a cushion, though, like Amorepacific's cult favorite. It offers full coverage, but feels super-thin.

If concealer is more your speed, consider this insanely lightweight Burberry formula. The liquid glides on seamlessly, and stays put without feeling heavy or tacky. Swipe it everywhere you need a little extra coverage.

As much as we love a bold lip color, we just can't get down with a matte shade on a particularly steamy day. Swap out yours for Smith & Cult's new lip lacquers. They're high-pigment, but don't require precise mirror application.

Your makeup needs a solid base — but that doesn't mean you have to slap on heavy primer in order to make it stick. We love this light version from Revlon. It blurs your pores (without making them feel like they're full of cement).

Your cheeks are probably already flushed from all that beach volleyball. But if you want a little extra color, Afterglow is clutch. Even though it's technically a cream, it goes on like a sheer, velvety powder. Plus, it stays on for eight hours without streaking. That's pretty major.

This may be the perfect eyeshadow — and not just for summer. Infused with coconut oil, it seamlessly glides onto your lids without clumping or gathering in the creases. The pigment has a crazy-high payoff, but feels like you're wearing nothin' at all: the best of both worlds.
