Fun Finds & Nifty Facts About The New Eco-Chic Timberland Store

Somewhere in your fall wardrobe shopping spree, don't forget to include a few essentials for enjoying the great outdoors — even if that only means apple picking or a weekend getaway to Galena. Where to shop? Timberland just opened its first Chicago store last Friday, and we promise you'll see more than just the iconic boot seen on the feet of jet-setting stars like
Kanye West, Rihanna, Eliza Dushku, and Mark Wahlberg.

The new 3,500-square-foot eco-friendly Mag Mile store used reclaimed wood to build fixtures for the store, as well as salvaged reclaimed factory machinery to build store design details such as table bases and floor tiles. The full range of Timberland prods for men and women is represented, including the eco-minded Earthkeepers collection, the classic Abington collection, and those beloved boots that are recognized around the globe. On our first pass, we spotted an adorable short down parka with a fur trim collar, a vintage jersey polo, and a cozy-yet-fashionable merino wool sweater dress, proving that you need not look like John Denver when dressing for the great outdoors.

Along with the feminine, outdoorsy items available, we're loving the fact that Timberland is connecting with the Chicago community by offering an exclusive collection of Chicago-themed T-shirts and men's and women's footwear sold only in the Michigan Avenue location. One of the collections' designs pays homage to the origin of Chicago's name "shikaakwa," which you may have learned in a rousing game of historical trivia translates to wild garlic. The store is also removing its carbon footprint by using Green rubber outsoles (made from 42% recycled rubber) on the bottom of 10 million pairs of shoes, which has already saved 3.3 million pounds of virgin from being used in the brand's footwear. Even if you haven't quite gotten on the recycling bandwagon yet, at least you can do your part to save the earth with some serious guilt-free shopping.
