One trend in hip-hop over the past year saw inventive producers expanding their music beyond the realm of beat-making.

did it with his excellent Electronic Dream, and Clams Casino, the guy behind the best #based beats in the business, released the atmospherically amorphous Rainforest EP. Yet, as great as the solo efforts that these producers have made are, it's still nice hearing them do what they got famous for in the first place.
This brings us to Fader’s X Squared series, which has tasked Clams Casino with remixing Big K.R.I.T.’s “Moon and Stars (feat. Devin the Dude).” While forced collaborations can be awkward, “Moon and Stars” sounds like a partnership that could easily have come about without the added corporate scrilla. Big K.R.I.T. and Devin the Dude’s ultra-smooth flows go down even easier when surrounded by Clammyclams’ spare breakbeat. Departing from his usual lush sound, Clams Casino doesn't mess too much the track's original formula; If anything, this version of "Moon and Stars" is less spacey than the original. This isn’t anything like the quasi-psychedelic soundscapes Clams Casino would have made for Lil B or A$AP Rocky, but in the end the collaboration is the better for it.
