This Is Our Jam: The Knife, “Full Of Fire” (NSFW)

It's been nearly seven long years since The Knife released its groundbreaking third LP, Silent Shout, but if you happen to take the record for a spin today, it hasn't aged one iota. Now the time has come for the Swedish duo to unveil new music, and typical of Karin and Olof Dreijer, it's probably going to take a little while to process.
The first single from the upcoming Shaking the Habitual is nine minutes of frenetic, warped, downright confrontational techno-punk. While we would have been happy with another album full of moody house, "Full Of Fire" is more aggressive, more political, and more thought-provoking than ever. "Let’s talk about gender baby / Let’s talk about you and me," sings Karin's manipulated voice in a bizarre Salt-n-Pepa interpolation that winds up defining the track. For a band that has always implicitly warped its sexuality through studio equipment, the siblings seem to take things a step further asking us to address gender identity full on. Listen to the track below, and check out the video by feminist porn director Marit Östberg, who takes the song's imagery to arresting, distinctly NSFW new places.
